As lead vocalist, lyricist, and composer for internationally- and critically- acclaimed Grammy Award-winning roots music group, Ranky Tanky, QUIANA PARLER spent weeks at #1 on several Billboard Jazz charts. Quiana has spent over 20 years as the most sought-after vocalist in the Lowcountry. Known locally for years prior, she rose to national prominence after her success on the 2003 season of American Idol.

Quiana has worked and collaborated with diverse artists and producers such as Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Bobby McFerrin, Miranda Lambert, David Foster, Walter Afanasieff and many more. Her performances have been featured on national broadcasts like The View, NBC’s TODAY, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show, The Tyra Banks Show, and Saturday Night Live, as well as the Academy of Country Music Awards and the American Music Awards.

Her vocals on Ranky Tanky’s eponymous debut album have drawn praise and acclaim from some of the nation’s most discerning and respected music critics. Parler uses her artistry to bring the cultural and musical heritage of the SC Lowcountry to some of the most prestigious stages in the US and Europe, like Norway’s Molde jazz and New York City’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Lavon Stevens began singing and playing piano at the age of 7. He began performing in local groups across the Southeast at the age of thirteen. His first instrument was the violin. He later studied voice and piano at Dekalb College in Atlanta, Georgia from 1979 to 1983.

He has traveled and performed all over the country including Aspen, Colorado, Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida. The resort vacation destination of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina has been his home since 1981. He is one of the premier entertainers on Hilton Head Island. Lavon is affiliated with BMI as a Publisher/Songwriter.

He is also a member of the Circle Of Songs organization. His CD “I See Love” was released in 1996 and features all original compositions. He is producing a variety of shows and recording projects including other R&B, Jazz and Gospel artists.




Educated in the public schools of Charleston County and graduate of the College of Charleston (Bachelor of Arts – Music Theory & Composition), Quentin E. Baxter cultivated his musical talents under the wings of regional legends/mentors Robert Ephraim, Oscar Rivers, Jr, Lonnie Hamilton III, George Kenney, Dr. David Maves, Teddy Adams, and Delbert Felix.

Currently touring worldwide with award-winning vocalist and composer René Marie and Ranky Tanky, Baxter regularly performs many prestigious venues and festivals. He’s performed at The Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), Jazz at Lincoln Center (New York), Joy of Jazz Festival (South Africa), Toulouse Jazz Festival (France), Umbria Jazz Festival and Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi (Italy), and, of course, Spoleto Festival USA (Charleston).

Baxter has worked with other great artists including Monty Alexander, Ernest Ranglin, Wycliff Gordon, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Allan Harris, Fred Wesley, Houston Person, Marcus Roberts, Joey DeFrancesco, James Spaulding, Bobby Watson, Ira Sullivan, Billy Childs, Eddie Henderson, Donald Byrd, Charlie Byrd, Gregory Hines, Sonny Fortune, Doug Carn, Marcus Printup, Terry Gibbs, Buddy DeFranco, Ronald Westray, Me’Shell NdegéOcello and India.Arie.

Baxter’s passion for worldwide performances is equaled by his dedication to educate, promote, produce, and present world-class artists in his hometown, Charleston, SC. He serves as Professor of Jazz Percussion at the College of Charleston and formed Baxter Music Enterprises (BME, LLC).
